Mason McDougall is a published Mètis-Michif writer and educator currently living on Treaty 7 land in Mohkinstsis. His family connections extend from the original buffalo hunters and traders of the Red River Settlement to the South Branch settlement in Saskatchewan, where his family’s blood was shed and where they still live today. He is currently finishing his first novel, which tells the story of Gabriel Dumont’s childhood, bringing to light the untold upbringing of the revered Indigenous leader through a subversion of the Pulp Western genre.
