Communications Specialist – Canada Summer Jobs Position
The Communications Specialist will assist with the marketing and communications in the lead up to LitFest 2024. This includes providing support with design and administration on communications across digital and print initiatives. Reporting to the Executive Director, some of the tasks the Communications Specialist will work on include creating social media content, adding and updating website content, and supporting the storytelling and audience outreach work around each of the festival events.
Responsibilities include:
• Social media design, copywriting, scheduling and engagement, in collaboration with the Executive Director.
• Creating event graphics that are consistent with the brand style guide, with oversight from the Executive Director.
• Adding and updating content on the LitFest website using WordPress.
• Coordinating email communications using Mailchimp.
• Promotion of events, including submitting events to event listings, and arranging cross-promotions.
• Researching community outreach opportunities, and sponsorships in collaboration with the Executive Director.
• And assisting with other tasks that arise as needed by the Executive Director.
Qualifications:
• Excellent attention to detail, interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently.
• Experience with web content management systems, using WordPress is a particular asset.
• Experience with Google Drive including Docs and Sheets, and Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
• Previous experience with graphic design (Canva and/or Adobe Illustrator) and social media is an asset.
• Experience with event planning and community outreach is an asset.

This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ). You must meet CSJ requirements to be eligible for this position.

The contract for this position runs for 8 weeks from July 3 to September 3, full-time at 30 hours per week from Monday–Friday. The candidate will work remotely, with the potential to schedule some days in office at Edmonton Public Library – Milner. There will be regular check-ins (in person and virtual) with the Executive Director.
