Q: What is a LitFest, anyway?

LitFest is an annual 11-day festival that programs events to bring authors and writers together with audiences. We are the only mandated nonfiction festival in Canada, and are proud to call Edmonton, Alberta our home. Our 30+ events each year are held in various locations throughout the downtown core.

Q: What happens at these events?

Many things, but usually there’s a reading or presentation, followed by a great conversation with the author or panelists. Formats vary (along with venues and general ambiance), but we guarantee that at every event there will be a unique display of nonfiction in some form. Sometimes there’s food or wine, other times you’ll be taken on a guided tour or other activity—one thing for sure is that there’s enough in the program to cover any taste, niche, or curiosity. Events are usually 60-75 minutes in length, followed by book-signing.

Q: Do you grant refunds for festival passes or tickets?

No, we do not. If you have purchased a pass and are unable to use it, please contact us at 780-498-2500 to chat about options for transferring the ticket value, or donating it to our Community Access ticket program.

Q: Will authors be on-hand after to sign copies of their books?
Yes, of course! In rare cases, an author may have a flight to catch or another event to run to, so in those case we may have to ask that the signing line move quickly. Beyond that, authors love signing books for their fans–it’s one of the best bits of the fest!
Q: Where can I contact LitFest with questions about my pass?
Email is the fastest and most reliable way to get a response: info@litfestalberta.org. You can also call 780 498 2500, but keep in mind that we’re not always around the phone during the festival.
Q: Can I update the events that I have RSVP’d to?
Yes, you can email any new RSVPs to rsvp@litfestalberta.org up to 24 hours in advance of the event you’d like to attend.
