Corinne Riedel-Pinnock (Métis) is a descendant of Red River Métis people of the Selkirk Settlers (McLeod, Thomas, Swain, Three Dresses, Bouvier, Lariviere) and of Austro German folk. Her parents are Stanley and Glenda Riedel of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. Her late grandparents are Frank and Geraldine Blight (née Sabiston) of Bankend, Saskatchewan, and Author and Ada Riedel (née Weiss) of Kelliher, Saskatchewan. Her extended family live in various spots along the North Saskatchewan River spanning from Ontario to Vancouver Island. She lives in Old Strathcona with her husband Sam (Jamaica) near Mill Creek and has favourite ravine spots where she listens to the land. She is a global traveller, holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing (University of Alberta), and is a poet and short-story writer, a jewellery-maker, and crafter with personal, professional, and cultural ties in Edmonton and throughout
Treaty 6 Territory. She was introduced, for the first time, to her cousin, Naomi McIlwraith (Métis), on campus in 2013 in an English course where Naomi was reading her poetry—their late Grandmothers, Lucabelle and Geraldine, were sisters—and the rest is history!
Corinne is a passionate student advocate and Auntie who mentors Indigenous students. She is an Auntie to Joshua, Olivia, and Emma and to many more young ones in her chosen family. She loves the sun, the water, and the woods as well as all things nehiyawewin, Spanish, and Jamaican Patois. She looks forward to writing and wilding with The Polyglot community for now and always.
