Spoken Word Youth Choir and Spoken Word Choir

SWYC and SWC (Spoken Word Youth Choir and Spoken Word Choir) are spoken word troupes from Edmonton, Alberta. Unique to Canada, they are a blend of Greek chorus, choir, improvisers, and poets who write text, choreograph movement, and adapt others’ texts. Created in 2007, both groups are an outgrowth of YouthWrite^®, a camp for kids who love to write…just about anything!^©  They’ve performed at the Edmonton Music and Speech Arts Festival, Edmonton Poetry Festival, the Calgary International Spoken Word Festival, Creative Cities Network Conference, Edmonton’s Cultural Capital Gala, Canadian Authors Association’s CANWRITE as well as for individual book and poetry launches and charity events.
